2008 Colts Draft

The 2008 Colts draft saw some unexpected selections. They selected receivers in the first and fourth rounds. Nicks and Anthony Collins were chosen in the fourth and fifth rounds. In the fifth and sixth rounds, they also selected receivers Josh Sitton and Breno Giacomini. John Sullivan, Demetrius Bell, and Demetrius Bell were also notable picks. They were selected in the seventh round and eighth rounds, respectively. While it may not be the best overall class, there are still some interesting players in the draft that could turn out to be valuable contributors to the team.

Six of the eight tackles were left tackles. Jake Long was the top pick in this draft. Ryan Clady and Chris Williams were also top left tackle prospects. Despite these promising names, no one really projected any of these prospects to go all the way to the second round, making it difficult for a team with a linebacker need to make a decision until the middle rounds.

The Indianapolis Colts have added a few players to their already impressive draft class. Jeff Saturday should be replaced by Mike Pollack, a Wake Forest student who is fast and athletic. He should be able to succeed at the next level due to his athleticism. The Colts also picked up a center who was one of the best in FBS last season. It’s still too early to predict what will happen with the Colts, but a few key pieces are already in place.

Although Dustin Keller was the best receiving tight end, there weren’t many standout tight ends. Some people favored Fred Davis’ overall game, while others favored John Carlson’s production as a college receiver. Brad Cottam and Craig Stevens were the other tight blocking ends. Martellus Bennett was both a blocker as well as a receiver.

Analysts believe that the quarterback class is weak. However, a six-to eight quarterback could be selected in each of the first three rounds. Some of the more prominent quarterbacks in the first three rounds include Chad Henne of Michigan, Andre’ Woodson of Kentucky, and Joe Flacco of Delaware. All three of these players have a chance at making it to the NFL. However, Flacco could be a late-round pick or an early second-round pick if the Colts trade up.

After their 2007 season, the Jaguars decided they were the best NFL team. They were close to winning the Super Bowl, but were hoping to dethrone the Colts in the AFC South with a rookie pass rush. In a desperate attempt to bolster their pass rush, the Jaguars traded up two picks, selecting Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves at the eighth and 52nd rounds, respectively. Each player was with the Jaguars for at least five seasons.

The Indianapolis Colts finished 12-4 and were the AFC’s #5 seed. Peyton Manning had a career-high of nine times 4,000 yards, and a TD pass to Marvin Harrison helped Manning set a franchise record. And in a wild-card round game against the Chargers, the Colts went down to defeat in a thrilling game. This season will be a memorable one for the Colts.
