Summer is fast approaching, and it’s the best time of the year for a barbecue. From the food to serve to the tools required to get everything ready and set up, you need to plan everything ahead of time to avoid embarrassment.

Below is a bbq checklist for planning a perfect party:

Ice-cold drinks

Having a good supply of cold drinks will not only keep everyone refreshed but cool as well. However, you need to ensure there is a drink for everyone since there are numerous beverages for backyard cookouts.

For instance, ensure you have both nonalcoholic and alcoholic drinks on your bbq menu. The kids for instance and some guests will enjoy the non-alcoholic ones, while some adults won’t get enough of the ice-cold beer.

Also, since it’s a hot season, you would want to include lots of water, and some fruit punches, especially lemon.

Grilling Equipment

There is no bbq without a grill. And although grills come in various sizes and shapes, you will have to choose one that meets your needs, the most common ones being charcoal and gas. Whichever your choice, the tools you will need remain the same. To start with, invest in some stainless steel tongs, spatula and fork to serve you for years. Don’t forget to get a flame-resistant apron and a pair of gloves. You will also need a basting brush and a kitchen towel.

Plus to ensure nothing runs out on you, have some extra gas or charcoal nearby to keep the party going.

Condiments and Sauces

Your food will only taste as better as the effort you put into it. From the marinades to the various fixings you choose to use, go as spicy or as saucy as you want. Remember, whichever sauces, spices or condiments you settle on should complement the food you’re cooking. For instance, you might have to work with bbq sauces for chicken, ribs, or some fruit-based,mustard-based,vinegar-based bbq sauces.

Don’t forget the burger and hot dog condiments such as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms, and much more.

Desserts, Sides, and Meats

A bbq menu can be as complex or as simple as you want. You can decide to go with the old-school staples or show off your cooking prowess. Whichever the case, the main grill remains meat, but you can have other vegetarian options.

Once you settle on your main, it’s time to settle on the seasoning. Then choose the side dishes which can be pasta or potato salad, coleslaw, corn on the cob, etc.

Don’t forget to include the desserts, to finish your party on a high note. For hot days, cool desserts will do, and vice versa. Think of red, blue or white ice cream, and some gluten-free desserts.

Table Setting

To ensure your table is well set to attract the attention it deserves, dress it up with pop and colour. You will need some disposable utensils and cups to make the cleaning after much easier. Have plates, bowls, forks, spoons, knives, and cups. Also napkins, table cloth, cutting board and toothpicks.

For safety, ensure you have a first aid kit on standby, a fire extinguisher, candles or some bug spray. A sunscreen will also come in handy.
