After that, Wellenreuther worked at IBM in Mannheim, where he was responsible for the development of financial accounting systems. In 1971 he left IBM to program a standard financial accounting system with batch processing. Wellenreuther left the company in 1980 for health reasons and received a severance payment of 1 million DM. In 1982 he founded DCW Software, which he developed into a specialist in medium-sized ERP software. The company was taken over by SAP in 2003.
