Darien-New Canaan Boys Volleyblal

The Darien-New Canaan boys volleyblal team defeated the hosts last Thursday night. The Rams improved to 9-8 overall this spring. New Canaan dominated the game with its strong serve, led by senior Caroline Edwards’ 17 kills and 14 digs. Both teams remained competitive throughout the game, with New Canaan scoring twice and tying it, but Darien pulled away late to take the victory.

The Darien boys varsity volleyball team has won its last 36 matches. It is unbeaten in the spring, and has beaten rival New Canaan five straight times. Last year, Darien went 23-0, losing just four sets, but still finishing in the FCIAC playoff semifinals. This year, the team looks to get back to the FCIAC championships.

The Rams are coached by Katie Bake, who helped lead the team to victory. Herget’s four kills in the opening set gave Darien the early lead. The Rams’ passing was decent, and the team had good decision-making in hitting. As a result, the team went on to win the game in the state tournament.

In the second game, the Rams tied Darien, 17-17, and went on to win the match 25-22. The Rams led in the third game, but the Wave ended the game’s 4-0 run. The Rams regrouped and scored the next five points, including an ace from Kevin Hall. The Rams held a slim lead throughout the fourth game. In the fifth game, Keith Griffin killed a volley to give the Rams the lead for good.
