Dave Hanke is a German DJ, producer and musician whose music has been released under various names. With roots in jazz and electronic music, his career as an artist has taken off since 2003.
Hanke is a Partner at Arent Fox and an expert national security lawyer for domestic and foreign companies navigating the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and its implementation of the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act (FIRRMA). He counsels defense contractors on matters pertaining to foreign ownership, control or influence under the government’s National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual.
Early Life and Education
David Hanke is a native of Williamsburg, Virginia and attended elementary and middle school there before moving to the College of William and Mary. After graduation he went on to earn his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Colorado Boulder.
He is an esteemed associate of the International Atlantic Economic Society and has held senior appointments in multiple government agencies. In addition, he is a renowned author and lecturer.
A former student of David Hanke has filed a complaint with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, alleging he inappropriately touched her without her consent in 1999 or 2000. According to the woman, Hanke invited her home after school, gave her beer, took her down the basement stairs and began giving her back massage without consent.
David Hanke has been in the legal field for more than 12 years. During that time, he held various national security staff positions on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and served as Counsel for National Security Affairs to Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), then-Senate Majority Whip.
Dave Hanke is a Partner in Arent Fox’s International Trade and National Security Practice. He provides legal and policy advice on matters at the intersection of business and national security, such as CFIUS screening, export controls, and investigations related to national security. Furthermore, he represents U.S. companies in informal submissions to CFIUS regarding problematic foreign investments in domestic competitors that raise U.S. national security concerns, in addition to preparing CFIUS filings.
Following a Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigation, more than 10 alleged victims have come forward, all accusing Hanke of sexual assault dating back 17 years. While the case is still under investigation, Hanke was charged on January 11th with one count related to the complaint filed against him.

Dave boasts an impressive academic record and has always been an exceptional student. Additionally, his leadership on campus is impressive.
Throughout his college career, he was involved in many extracurricular activities such as Student Council, Varsity Club, Trailblazers and Pioneer Golf Classic. Furthermore, he served on Carroll University’s Board of Trustees and was part of its Alumni Council.
He and his wife Katy (Crooks) Vetta ’78 are deeply thankful for all the people in his life who have supported and assisted him along the way; Carroll University in particular. His relationship with Carroll and its people kept him connected and focused throughout life’s ups and downs. A proud alumni of Carroll, he will never forget those who helped him achieve success!
David Hanke has always been known as a kind and generous individual who would do anything to help those around him. From family to neighbors, donut shop buddies, McDonald’s buddies, dog walkers, colleagues – the list is endless when it comes to David’s kindnesses.
His passion for the Lord and ministry have brought him to Washington, DC where he serves as pastor at Restoration Anglican Church. Although political division remains in this country, he hopes to point people towards Jesus no matter their position on the political spectrum.
As an artist, Hanke’s Renegades of Jazz project has long been associated with daring interpretations of classic jazz samples mixed in with dancefloor-friendly remixes. But recently we’ve seen other side projects emerge too – from Dem Juju Poets to Mankoora – showing Hanke’s constant quest to develop his music in exciting new directions.
He is an American business executive renowned for founding and serving as CEO of software development company Niantic. During his tenure there, he oversaw the growth of augmented reality apps such as Ingress and Pokemon Go.
