David Agundez was raised in Harbor City public housing projects in Los Angeles with his father abusing him throughout his childhood. A first-generation Mexican American, David endured physical, sexual, and psychological abuse at the hands of his father for most of his young life.

Agundez-Martinez served in the San Diego Police Department, receiving training on dealing with violent situations. He also instructed school administrators and teachers on how to lock down a school, avoid shooter’s bullets, and evacuate students from classrooms.

In November 2018, Michael informed his mother about Agundez-Martinez’s abuse and reported the crimes to police. As a result, the State charged Agundez-Martinez with five criminal offenses committed between 10-12 years old. We hereby vacate those convictions and sentences, hoping this decision will encourage other parents to come forward with reports of abusers for investigation and punishment.
