David Winston, RH (AHG), has been practicing Cherokee, Chinese and Western herbal medicine since 1969. He is internationally acclaimed as a lecturer, author, ethnobotanist.

David Winston Center for Herbal Studies offers a world-renowned two-year training program in clinical herbal medicine. For over 45 years he has taught medical students, doctors and other health care professionals from around the globe about this therapeutic modality.

Early Life and Education

David was raised by parents who prioritized education. He attended Wheatridge High School before enrolling at Brigham Young University.

David first became interested in theology during his college years and soon began studying the Bible as well.

After earning his undergraduate degree, David attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth Texas to study theology.

David worked tirelessly as a professor of New Testament and theology at Criswell College in Texas to earn his doctorate. Additionally, he edited the New American Commentary Series for Baptist Sunday School Board as well as authoring multiple books on theology.

Herb was an educator for more than 50 years. His students and colleagues will long remember his passion for teaching and leading.

His legacy remains alive in classrooms across the globe through his tireless advocacy in education. His contributions in outdoor education – such as his television documentary, hundreds of professional articles, two books, presentations and workshops – continue to encourage teachers to incorporate nature-based instruction in all aspects of their instruction.

Herb was an attentive father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. An avid reader, Herb enjoyed learning new things – particularly history and nature – which will be sorely missed by his loved ones and friends alike.

Herb David has had an illustrious career. He was honored with induction into the National Order of Merit for his achievements in arts and has received many other prestigious honors during his life.

Herb has long been recognized as an influential member of the mixed martial arts (MMA) world. For several years he served as both a referee and fighter.

He was an exceptional friend to many, always enjoying spending time with his family, listening to others’ viewpoints, learning something new, being outside in nature and generally spending quality time. Above all else he was dedicated to following God.

He was also a dedicated Christian who deeply appreciated his church and community, playing an active part in various meetings and activities at The Rock Church.

He enjoyed spending his free time with friends and family as well as engaging in outdoor sports activities and hobbies such as hunting.

His passion was reading and illustrating children’s books; he has published over 25 titles for young readers.

Herb Lubin and Sharon Mae Lubin married in 1956 and had two children together before parting ways in 1971.
