If you’re interested in trading for Deshaun Watson, the 2022 NFL Draft is going to be the year to do so. Watson has been accused of sexual misconduct by nearly two dozen women. Although the Houston Texans declined to trade Watson, they will consider making a deal if they are looking for a quarterback for next season. This could lead to an offer in the region of $48 million.
The NFL will likely face a huge backlash from fans and public if the lawsuit against Watson goes to trial. Goodell, the NFL commissioner has denied Watson the right of being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list. This has put him on paid administrative leaves. In a press conference at the NFL annual meetings in Palm Beach, Fla., Goodell said that the NFL would “not pursue the civil cases against Watson unless there are sufficient grounds to do so.”
Considering Watson’s infamous history, it’s not surprising that the Browns have reportedly agreed to waive his contract, and they’ll pay him the next five seasons of his contract if he signs with them. However, Watson’s situation is complicated by numerous legal battles. The Browns are currently at the center of a legal dispute involving 22 civil lawsuits filed against them. Watson is accused of sexual misconduct, but the Houston grand jury has not yet indicted him on nine criminal charges.
The Saints need a backup quarterback and runningback. Both Watson and Kamara are facing multi-game suspensions next season, which puts them at a distinct disadvantage in the division with Tom Brady returning. In addition, Carolina appears to be the most aggressive team in Watson’s contract negotiations. The Panthers will likely offer Watson advice on how to build his organization. If he does sign with them, he could also suggest hiring a new head coach to improve his team’s performance.
The Dolphins made a push last season to land Watson. Though the Dolphins are no longer favored, they’re still in the Top 10 in odds at +140. The Steelers are also looking for a quarterback and the Dolphins are still in contention for the quarterback. And they’ve recently added Brian Flores to their coaching staff. However, the Dolphins’ odds reflect a team’s need for a quarterback.
The Texans have a 2022 home game that is particularly interesting. While the opponent has not yet been announced, Watson will be visiting the Texans and playing at NRG Stadium. While the game is expected to be a battle between AFC North and South, it will be Watson’s grand return to NRG Stadium. If Watson is indeed a game to watch, this could be a must-watch.
The Texans won’t be in the trade mix for Deshaun Watson. However, the Browns and Saints will remain in the mix. That leaves only the mystery team. Watson’s first round pick will be the 13th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Texans will be second in salary to Aaron Rodgers with Watson in Houston. The Browns are expected to trade for Baker Mayfield and two first-round picks in the future.
