Early Life and Education

Elise Adams was born January 20, 1920, in a farmhouse between Whitsett and Burlington, NC which her descendants still refer to as “Down Home.” Her father was John Muse, owner of a small grocery store in Winston-Salem. Thankfully for Elise as a child living on such an idyllic farm while both parents battled through the Great Depression.

At 16 she made her Broadway debut and soon thereafter was cast with one of the leading actors of the time, John Drew Jr., in several productions produced by Charles Frohman that brought her recognition and even earned three patents for innovative lighting design.

Professional Career

Elise Adams has an expansive career spanning multiple areas of law. She provides legal guidance to real estate owners and developers on their rights and responsibilities when planning and developing new buildings; handles land use issues; performs due diligence for major property transactions.

As a research assistant for the Center for Florida’s Endangered Species and Wild Places, she advocates for protecting rare amphibians and reptiles within Florida’s ecosystems.

At Pace University, she studies digital journalism. In her free time she likes writing about various events and hopes to join broadcast journalism after graduating. When not writing or studying broadcast journalism, she likes taking family walks, playing soccer and exploring beauty around her – not forgetting taking spin classes to stay fit and healthy!

Achievement and Honors

Elise Adams has received many honors and awards throughout her life, such as joining Mortar Board – an international honor society focused on leadership, scholarship and service.

She is also part of Pace University Digital Journalism Team where she writes articles covering LGBT events such as meetings and Relay for Life events.

She has been honored by the National Wildlife Federation for her contributions in conservation. She follows in the footsteps of many women who have made notable strides towards environmental movement.

Personal Life

Elise Adams was an devoted wife and mother. She delighted in spending time with both family and friends.

After her husband Bill retired in 1975, they began traveling around with a travel camper across the country and volunteering and helping others along their journeys.

She was also highly involved at Christ Moravian Church, serving in multiple capacities and being an enthusiastic member of their Women’s Fellowship.

Cooking and gardening were two passions of hers that she took great pleasure in sharing. Always generous and kind, she greatly looked forward to visiting and helping people. She will be deeply missed by both family and friends alike. Bill Adams preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Christ Moravian Church or Trinity Elms Assisted Living/Memory Care of Winston-Salem NC as memorials.
