He serves as Mobilization Assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition Integration within the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics. There he works alongside a 100-person acquisition staff responsible for planning, managing and analyzing $200 billion research, development and acquisition investment budget for the Air Force.

George Doyle was a Naval officer who saved lives during the Korean War. He sailed Task Force 90 to Hungnam, North Korea where she rescued 105,000 American and South Korean troops as well as 91,000 civilians fleeing Communist purges.

He was a highly decorated soldier, receiving both the Legion of Merit and Distinguished Service Cross for his services in combat with Japan between August 1942-15 July 1943. Additionally, he served on the staff of Rear Adm. Richmond Kelly Turner (Commander Amphibious Force South Pacific), receiving the Distinguished Service Medal for landings on Japanese-held Guadalcanal, Florida, Gavutu, Tanambogo and Tulagi in Solomon Islands from August 1942-15 July 1943.

He had a longstanding commitment to NEPTA. At biennial events, he provided conference sessions with FTA staff and was always available for advice to NEPTA members. For his dedication and professionalism towards NEPTA, he was awarded numerous performance and honor awards.

Personal Life

Dougherty was a remarkable deaf scientist who pioneered ways to calculate how much nickel is present in steel, as well as inventing the Reflux Air Condenser and working to preserve American Sign Language.

George became the first deaf man to graduate from Missouri’s state school for the deaf, and he also actively engaged in his community by encouraging deaf students to attend college and pursue careers in their chosen fields.

He was the first President elected of the Association of the Deaf in 1887 and one of the founders of both the World Congress of the Deaf and Chicago Pas-a-Pas club.
