Houston Baptist University Basketball Standout Killed in New York

Darius Lee, a former Houston Baptist University basketball star, was shot to death in New York City on Sunday morning. The Houston native was fatally shot in the chest and died later in hospital. The Houston Baptist community was shocked by the news of Lee’s death. Lee averaged 12 points per game and six rebounds. We send our prayers and condolences to his family and friends.

Police are investigating what led to the shooting. Police are looking for suspects and the gun was found at the scene. Lee was an aspiring rapper, and a star at Houston Baptist University. He was expected to graduate December with a bachelor’s in sports management. Rich Rhymer also hosted a cookout.

Lee began his college career at SUNY Sullivan before transferring to Houston Baptist. He averaged 18 points per game and he shot 53/29/77% from three-point range. He was named Male Student-Athlete of the Year and was on track to graduate this December. He was recently named Houston Baptist’s male athlete of the year.
