Manage Files on Mac

If you’re one of those people, you might be wondering how to manage files on a Mac computer.

Thankfully, we have the perfect guide to help you out, so make sure you keep reading!

Create a Folder

Some people will save all of their documents everywhere on their hard drive or their desktop. When you actually need to use the file, it can be difficult to know where to look.

The first thing you need to do is create a folder and name it. Some people will name it according to a certain subject or category, but just make sure that it’s easy to find. Then, move all the relevant files into that folder.

Find Files Manually

There is a built-in way to find large files using the Spotlight search. You can even select certain drives you want to search through. Hit the + button in the top-right. Then, you’ll be able to find files that are larger than a certain size. For example, you could search for files that are over 150 MB.

However, keep in mind that Finder will only show the files and not any of the folders. This might make it harder to search for a specific file.

Arrange Files

Once you’ve located all of the files you need, you can then sort files by size. There is an “Arrange By” and a “Sort By” option.

To use either of those, you’ll have to right-click in some open area in the folder that you want to arrange. You’ll see a window pop up, and then you can click the arrange by option. You’ll be able to arrange it by the name, size, kind of file, application, or the date it was created.

Once they’re arranged, you can then sort through the files. If you right-click, you’ll see that you can then click Sort By. You’ll then be able to go through all your files and group them according to the date, name, or size.

Clean Drive

One reason that many people want to find larger files on their computers is to be able to clean up their hard drives. You can get rid of any old files that you don’t need anymore, and this will free up your computer to be able to run faster.

It can also free up your memory space so that you can store more files that you will actually use.
