The Iowa Central Community College wrestling team is no stranger to national titles. In fact, the program has won 11 of the last 12 Daktronics Cups, which are awarded to the top two-year athletic departments in the country. The school has also won four straight Learfield Director’s Cups, and its coaches are members of the NJCAA Coaches Hall of Fame. These accomplishments are not to be missed.
Jake Voss and Jacob Fletcher are the team’s sophomores. Jack Pederson of Upper Iowa and Nick Baumler from Iowa Central Community College are also top-ranked wrestlers. Juniors Jacob Haag, Ryan Parmely and Ryan Parmely are also competing. Also competing are juniors Jacob Sturgess and Nick Baumler of Mount Vernon and senior Kyle Decker of Decorah. The team also features members of the Northern Iowa High School wrestling program.
The NCAA championships are one of the most significant achievements for the program. Harper won his sixth consecutive NAIA championship in 2010. In 2010, Iowa Central won its first NCAA team title in ten years. The Knights won their third consecutive championship in four seasons. The University of Iowa, Grand View and Wartburg College have won eight national team titles. While the program won only one national team title last season, the history of the school’s wrestling program is rich and well-known.
Iowa Central Community College sports teams are coached by 25 people. There are 13 male head coaches and 12 female head coaches. They average $11,186 to $2113 per year. A volleyball program is also run by one female head coach, and one assistant coach. It’s hard to know the exact number of coaches but Iowa Central Community College sports teams are making decent profits. But that’s not all.
Velasquez, a heavyweight from Kofa, Arizona, has won the 5A Arizona wrestling championship two times. He was a wrestler at Iowa Central Community College for one season, where he won his NJCAA National Championship in heavyweight. He later transferred to Arizona State University to earn his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. He has been very active in martial arts training, and even fought in MMA against Jesse Fujarczyk.
