Although the expression “it can’t be saved” isn’t a Japanese phrase, it is used in many situations. “It can’t be helped” is a common negative response in many situations, including losing a bet or a job. As Rochelle Kopp, a Japanese language consultant, points out, “The phrase is not particularly unique to Japan.” It is used all over the world to express a universal sentiment.
