Sprint Chief Executive John Forsee still lacks any personal items from the company he took over in December. His bookshelf is empty except for a photograph of his family members: wife and daughters.

Forsee has said he wants to leave the past behind and focus on Sprint’s future. Yet some industry insiders and Wall Street analysts see him as being held back by legal matters from BellSouth, his former employer.

Early Life and Education

John Forsee was raised on a farm in Pike County, Alabama and developed an intense passion for social justice and the desire to make the world a better place.

He was profoundly motivated by the Civil Rights Movement and Martin Luther King Jr.’s words. This inspiration eventually propelled him to prominence within the movement.

As a college student, Forsee attended the University of Paris and also spent time studying law in Basel, Switzerland. It was during this period that he developed his disillusionment with Rome Catholicism; therefore he wrote The Institutes of Christian Religion which he considered his most significant work. This contains explanations of the Decalogue, Apostles Creed, Lord’s Prayer as well as short discussions regarding baptism, other sacraments, Christian liberty, church government and discipline within the church.

Professional Career

John Forsee has made a lasting impact in both the business world and local community. After graduating from UMR, he joined the telecommunications industry for over 30 years, earning several accolades along the way, such as being inducted into the Order of the Golden Shillelagh and serving on University of Missouri System’s Board of Trustees.

He has also maintained his involvement in the community by contributing generous amounts of money to various local organizations, showing his philanthropic spirit far beyond UMR’s walls.

One of his greatest achievements was the construction of a cutting-edge wing for the University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. This joint venture between UMR and its partner university, Missouri, has become an inspiration to many agricultural institutions around the country.

Achievements and Honors

John Forsee was a man of many talents. He was the proud papa to three sons and daughter, known for his caring approach to work and play. But perhaps most notably, John’s unwavering support of Pahrump’s community. A passionate walker and cyclist, John was an active member of both YMCA Pahrump chapter as well as Knights of Columbus local chapter; all with an age-defying sprightliness!

Personal Life

John Forsee was a dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Additionally, he served his community as an enthusiastic volunteer fireman.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to books. As an accomplished author, he published several works.

His wife Mary and children John Darren (Mary) Forsee of Ashland, Brenda (Andy) Curtis also of Ashland, Rachel (Roy) Merriott also of Ashland, Jody (Steve Gillis) Forsee of Pensacola Florida and Kery Arthur of Fulton all survive him as do several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. His grandson Rylin Barker from Fulton also survives along with several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was a beloved neighbor, living peacefully in McEwen, Humphreys County, Tennessee. A farmer all his life, he enjoyed farming and being outdoors; in addition to this he also excelled at cooking and baking. Additionally, his passions included fishing and mushroom hunting.
