John Jelinek

John Jelinek was a member of The Church of Holy Apostles in McHenry, where he led the youth ministry. He served as a youth minister for 10 years, and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

His approach to the ministry has been successful as he’s seen more teens participate in small weekly groups and on mission trips. It’s also helped him connect with them on a more personal level, and he sees a lot of growth.

Early Life and Education

Jelinek was born in Czechoslovakia and emigrated to the United States with his family when he was a child. He studied engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining IBM Research, where he specialized in computer speech recognition and machine translation.

After leaving IBM, he worked at Johns Hopkins University, where he served as director of the Center for Language and Speech Processing. He died of a heart attack in 2010.

The most impressive was the Department’s award for the best Senior Honors project and thesis. It was also the first time the prize was presented to an undergraduate student, not a faculty member.

In his spare time, Jelinek was an avid sports fan and a member of several teams. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was also a great cook and enjoyed a wide variety of foods. He and his wife, Linda, have three children, Rebekah, Micah John, and Anna.
