John Kula

John Kula is a certified fraud examiner with an MBA in Management Information Systems and an expert in corporate security. With more than 25 years of experience working at senior leadership levels in financial crime investigation, forensics, and international business risk management, he is recognized for his expertise.

At present, he serves as Head of Prescient’s Due Diligence Practice and leads global investigations for clients in emerging markets. His expertise includes asset tracing; integrity and FCPA-related due diligence; internal/external fraud; and organizational corruption.

Early Life and Education

John Kula was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States at a very young age. He spent his formative years growing up on a dairy farm near Prattsburgh, New York where he learned the value of hard work and perseverance from an early age.

He was an exemplary father, passionately committed to his children throughout their lives. His close bond with daughter Melissa endured until her passing in 2012.

He was an acclaimed scientist who pioneered research in protein separation and bioenergetics. Additionally, he created educational computer programs with interactive elements. His efforts brought him great satisfaction, leading to multiple awards for his accomplishments.

Professional Career

Kula has served as graduate director and clinical chemistry course chairperson at the University of Maryland Medical School’s Department of Medical and Research Technology. Additionally, he was co-investigator on an NIH grant to evaluate fluoride slow release devices, developing computerized instructional programs for clinical chemistry students.

John has also served as a grant reviewer for the U.S. Department of Education during Upward Bound Math/Science and Veterans Upward Bound grant competitions.

In 2005, Mills and Bevan began writing together again, leading to a reunion of Kula Shaker. Their first gig back together took place at The Wheatsheaf in Leighton Buzzard on December 21st 2005.

Achievements and Honors

John Kula has earned recognition for his professional musicianship as well as academic accomplishments and leadership. He was inducted into the National Honor Society and won numerous awards for his classroom performances.

At Ashland University’s Academic Honors Convocation and Academic Mentor Recognition on November 6th, AU honored students who have achieved remarkable academic success during their years at AU. The ceremony took place in Coley Rice Lounge during Parent and Family Weekend on November 6.

Personal Life

John Kula was a dedicated family man. He worked tirelessly to provide for his wife Susan and children Jeff & Melissa.

He particularly enjoyed working with children in the Greece Central School District, providing them with the tools to succeed and securing their futures.

After Kula Shaker disbanded in 1999, Crispian Mills explored new musical avenues and toured the UK as Pi. However, disagreements over an album proposal saw Mills part ways with his UK record company in 2001 due to disagreement over its quality.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife Susan; children Jeff Kula and Melissa Giambrone; grandchildren Casey Kula, Allie Kula, Luka Giambrone, and Liam Giambrone; sisters Krystyna Loeffler, Steve Kula, Stella Bashta, Frank Kula; brothers-in-law Tom Schiefer Reenie Siem David Schiefer John Schiefer Ronnie Schiefer as well as many special nieces and nephews.
