John Mallo – One of the Original Licensees of

Budget Rent a Car

John Mallo was one of the original licensees for Budget Rent a Car, opening their first location in Akron, Ohio. Later he owned locations in Tucson, AZ and Las Vegas, NV as well.

Kent State University graduate, he founded Splash Car Wash company in 2015 and passed away on August 29, 2022.

Professional Career

John Mallo, 84, was one of the original licensees for Budget Rent A Car and had an illustrious career in the automotive industry. He opened budget locations throughout Arizona, Ohio and Las Vegas.

Mallo was an exceptional supervisor during his time at Detector, excelling in every aspect of his role. He had a strong focus on safety and earned the respect of his colleagues with his hardworking attitude and meticulous attention to detail.

In February 1995, Mallo earned the distinction of being the highest paid employee at Detector; yet that did not stop him from complaining about his boss. Among other issues that went awry, he claimed not to have received an adequate performance review or recognition for his accomplishments. Furthermore, he wasn’t even informed about a potential promotion that came his way.

Achievements and Honors

John Mallo was an accomplished entrepreneur who founded and ran multiple car dealerships. Additionally, in 2015 he founded Splash Car Wash Company.

He was an avid sports fan and held a pilot’s license. Additionally, he served on the Mason City Fire Department.

He was an impressive athlete, beginning his wrestling career at high school level and becoming two-time FloNationals All-American in 2010 and 2011. While attending West Point, NY for college, he competed two years in NCAA Division I competition.

Mallo was also a community leader who established the Eden Prairie Veteran Memorial in 2009. This memorial honors fallen heroes from Eden Prairie and was dedicated in 2009, featuring quotes from prominent individuals on its walls. It has been featured on multiple national television shows.

Personal Life

On December 22nd, 2018, George Mallo, a longtime attorney and founder of the Mallo Legal Clinic, passed away. Additionally, he served as general counsel to his brother John’s business, Budget Rent A Car & Truck Rental.

Mallo’s career and personal life were on the rise, yet he was struggling with physical ailments like tinnitus, migraines and back pain from a recent operation. Additionally, anxiety and depression had taken its toll on his mental wellbeing.

In his free time, Mallo enjoyed golfing and watching sports – particularly Ohio State, Cleveland and Arizona teams. Additionally he served as a Lear Jet pilot. Mallo had an affinity for cars and trucks; he owned multiple dealerships and co-founded Splash Car Wash Company in 2015. Ted’s wife Cheryl Larson will cherish all of Ted’s stories.
