John Marymont – An Orthopedic Surgeon

John Marymont, MD earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University with the Phi Beta Kappa honorary society and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston before pursuing a sports medicine fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.

Early Life and Education

John Marymont earned his Phi Beta Kappa degree from Northwestern University and then went on to receive a medical degree from Vanderbilt University. Following this, he completed an orthopedic surgery residency and sports medicine fellowship.

He then assumed the position of chair of the department of orthopedics at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA. Additionally, he held a faculty appointment at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX before joining the University of South Alabama.

At USA, student performance in the College of Medicine has continued to soar. He collaborated with Mitchell College of Business on launching an Master of Business Administration program in healthcare management and spearheaded major initiatives like restructuring the University’s health system, developing USA Healthcare Authority and expanding clinical enterprise.

Professional Career

John Marymont is an orthopedic surgeon in Shreveport, Louisiana and has been in practice for over 37 years. He is affiliated with University Health Center.

He was named a Vitals Patients’ Choice Doctor due to his consistently high ratings for promptness and overall service. Additionally, he is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

He is passionate about physical therapy and regularly hosts PT Pintcast, an audio podcast featuring interviews with experts in the field that has been downloaded more than three million times worldwide. Additionally, he is a proud member of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Achievements and Honors

John marymont has achieved many remarkable accomplishments throughout his life. He was recognized for his commitment to education and leadership within the medical community.

Marymont has served on the USA College of Medicine faculty for more than ten years and recently been promoted to vice president for medical affairs and dean of the College of Medicine at University of South Alabama.

He serves as chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.

In 2015, MMC received its largest-ever gift when Judith M. Carson ’03, H’13 and Russell Carson donated $5 million for the This is the Day campaign. As longtime supporters of the College, Judith and Russell have played an invaluable role in its transformation.

Personal Life

John Marymont was raised in a family of educators. His grandfather was an historian, his father a college professor and John’s mother Elizabeth (Darbishire) McNeill worked as a librarian with the Office of War Information in Greece.

He admired his father’s dedication and learned from his mother the value of education. Additionally, he was taught the value of speaking honestly and openly about one’s opinions.

He is an orthopedic surgeon with 20 years of executive leadership experience at major academic medical centers. Alumnus of Phi Beta Kappa and Northwestern University, he earned a certificate in medical and healthcare management as well as a master of business administration degree from Rice University’s Jones School of Business where he was selected by the faculty to receive the distinction of “Jones Scholar”. Most recently he served as chair of the department of orthopedic surgery at LSU Health Shreveport.
