Passed Away

Recently, one of Farmersville’s most beloved citizens celebrated his eighty-second birthday. He is a highly esteemed and beloved figure in this community who has presided over the entrance into life of many members over fifty-eight years.

He is a physician, merchant and an esteemed citizen of North Texas. He has been part of this city’s foundation from its inception, providing its people with expert medical knowledge, extensive business acumen and friendly comradeship.

Early Life and Education

John Neathery was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on May 2, 1957 to Felix Stroud and June Margaret Worthington Neathery. He worked as the Parts Manager for Hope Tractor Company in Hope, Arkansas and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gurdon, Arkansas.

He married Wanda Collins Neathery in September 1989 and she survives, along with their son Steve Neathery and wife Kyeasa; daughter Nikki Myers; stepson Jeremy Myers; grandchildren Kris Neathery, Josh Neathery, Treasury Haynes, Traci Haynes, Shyanne Myers Sarah DelRio (husband Hunter), Lyndsi Hales (husband Wesley); great-grandchildren Christina McBride Trevor Wininger Isabella Wininger Kyle Neathery Gunnar Neathry Khole Gill DelRio Khole Gill DelRio Axton DelRio Tylan Haynes, Talia Haynes; all preceded in death by his parents.

Professional Career

John Neathery is an esteemed sociology professor at Alamance Community College and has been teaching there for over three decades. As an excellent instructor, John leads by example.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Appalachian State University and an master’s degree in sociology from the same institution. Additionally, he earned an Education Specialist (Ed.S) degree with a concentration in Criminal Justice from that same university.

He is a well-rounded individual who enjoys sports and having fun at work. Additionally, he has been active in his community by serving on the boards of directors for Howell County 911, The Harlin Museum and Ozark Medical Center.

Achievements and Honors

Neathery, a sociology instructor at Alamance Community College, was recently recognized by the NC Community College System as the top community college instructor in the state. As one of only 58 instructors to receive this honorable distinction, ACC is proud to have him on our faculty.

John is an active participant in his community, a member of Green Acres Baptist Church and an enthusiastic Tennessee Vols fan. In his spare time he loves to write, garden and play guitar.

Neathery is a graduate of Appalachian State University with both a bachelor’s and master’s in sociology. Additionally, he holds an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) post-graduate degree in Higher Education Teaching with an emphasis on criminal justice. His teaching philosophy emphasizes the significance of providing students with strong critical thinking abilities as well as encouraging them to apply this knowledge in everyday life.

Personal Life

John was a family man who achieved success at the top end of the spectrum. His most recent position was as Parts Manager for a tractor manufacturer. Additionally, John was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Gurdon and enjoyed many esoteric moments throughout his illustrious career; however, it’s his philanthropic endeavors that have earned him many admirers and admirers across America – particularly his decision to donate part of his fortune to a local children’s hospital.
