A pulley is a mechanical device used to facilitate movement and direction change of taut cable or belt. It may have grooves or flanges around its circumference that locate the drive element, or it could simply be an empty wheel without these features.

Combining fixed and movable pulleys can provide a mechanical advantage. A block and tackle arrangement could be formed using several pulleys mounted on both fixed and moving axles.

John Pulley was raised in American Fork, Utah where he gained valuable lessons about hard work and integrity from his family – traits which would serve him well throughout life.

After graduating high school, he entered the University of Utah School of Law. Within one year he earned his law degree and secured a job with an established Oakland-based firm that handled workers’ compensation cases on defense.

He worked at the firm for over a decade, rising through the ranks to associate partner and then senior partner. Afterwards, he explored founding his own firm; ultimately joining Boxer & Gerson. A leader in anti-trafficking efforts, he believes education is key in combatting violence against children.

John Pulley is a highly accomplished and successful professional with 29 years of experience in the financial services industry. He currently operates out of Oakland, California as a financial advisor.

He holds series 63 and 65 licenses, which enable him to serve investors in California and Texas. Furthermore, he serves on the advisory team at Morgan Stanley – a registered investment firm.

He finds joy in connecting with God and nature, as well as giving back to his community.

He is passionate about developing men into better husbands, fathers and leaders in their workplace and communities. Additionally, he is dedicated to combatting human trafficking with a unique approach.

Achievements and Honors

His tenure as dean of the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University has earned him a place of distinction in both business and academia. As executive vice president at Weber Shandwick, he led an impressive marketing team and provided advice to some of the biggest names in corporate America. As founding member of their global media committee, he was an early proponent of social media for businesses; additionally, he wrote books on storytelling for clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses and non-profits alike. A man with many talents; an engaging host who enjoyed life both indoors and outdoorsy alike, it was an honor to work alongside such an engaging personality!

Personal Life

John Pulley is a well-known basketball star with an innate sense of social responsibility. As part of the John Wall Family Foundation in the Triangle region, he plays an active role in its charitable work.

His mother Frances Pulley passed away in 2017 after a year-long fight with cancer. She was an integral part of her community and an inspiring worker who sacrificed to support her family.

She served as a role model to her son, working three to four jobs to support the family and encouraging him to strive for more in life.

She had a deep-seated passion for basketball, beginning to play as a teenager with dreams of becoming an NBA star.
