John Studer was born on March 15, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Donald J. and Marguerite A. Studer (nee Armitage). Surviving him are his wife of 57 years, Doris; son David Studer; daughter Kris Tackett; grandchildren Mishka and Dylan Studer both of Little Rock; Daniel Eubanks of Perryville; Corey Cassidy of Hot Springs; great-grandchild Alice Tackett also of Hot Springs; plus two nieces Michelle Zehender and Vicky Inneger both from Little Rock.

He attended the University of Notre Dame, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1960. Additionally, he earned a law degree at William Mitchell College of Law and was admitted to the bar in 1964. Throughout his career as both a United States Navy officer and judge, as well as an author, he never missed an opportunity.

Professional Career

Professionally, John Studer has been an influential force in the business world for over four decades. As an accomplished and well-rounded executive, his reputation includes developing individuals and teams within a diverse, goals-driven culture.

He has held leadership roles in Digital Marketing, IT portfolio management and LEAN supply chain innovation. Additionally, he was responsible for implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software into North American Manufacturing operations as well as Global Chemicals & Perfumes operations.

He is an expert in human resources, having assisted organizations create new HR operating models and successfully prepare employees for their new roles and responsibilities. From 1997 to 2015, John served as a senior lecturer and professor of English at Ohio State Marion. During this time, he earned the Griffin Society Teaching Award, Babich Writing Award and John Mount Academic Excellence Award.

Personal Life

John was a true 21st century Renaissance Man, enjoying many interests. He was an inventive cook, voracious reader, part time farmer and passionate gardener. Most of all though, John loved his family and enjoyed exploring Minnesota’s majestic lakes – something he took great joy in doing every day!

He was an ardent Notre Dame fan and enjoyed watching his team play whenever possible. Additionally, he enjoyed spending time with his dogs, riding his bike and going for walks in the woods.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather of five children and grandfather to seven grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, he is survived by Margie Studer Montgomery, his beloved wife of 65 years; sister Teresa with her husband Jim MacCartee (Carl d. and Jeanne Studer-Hansen); Mary Moore with Don (Anne Koval), Michael with Joanna (his spouse) will all also survive him).
