John Whiffing was born in England in 1881 to Ezra and Charlotte Whiffing.

Early Life and Education

John whiffing was born in Bermondsey, London the third son of Ezra and Charlotte Whiffing. He worked as a scaffolder and bricklayer before joining the Royal Engineers in 1915; eventually being promoted to Sapper at Mudeford where unfortunately he succumbed from exposure from bathing in the sea during his service. John is remembered by Nunhead All Saints Cemetery.

Whiffing was arrested with 82 pounds of meth, more than 1,700 fentanyl pills and 35 grams of fentanyl, as well as cocaine, marijuana and guns. He was accused of drug trafficking and money laundering.

Achievements and Honors

John has had a long and distinguished career as both journalist and entrepreneur, earning him numerous honours and awards for his contributions to Canadian journalism and entrepreneurship. Additionally, he was recognized by his community as a pillar for serving others. But it is perhaps his philanthropic work which truly brings him joy – his charitable donations having had an exemplary track record of success that have benefitted thousands around the world.

Personal Life

John Whiffing was a devoted family man, loving husband, father and grandfather. A member of Thorntown First United Methodist Church, he served as blood donor and always enjoyed helping others. An avid reader, John enjoyed spending time outdoors while Margie lived on their farm in Boone County all of their lives. Survived by daughters Emily Whiffing of Thorntown; John Whiffing Jr. of Lebanon; and 7 grandchildren; visitors are welcome from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at Milledgeville Methodist Church before the funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Sunday April 15.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Robert Whiffing of North Carolina; and two sisters Maxine Rhoades from Ohio and Allan Rhoades from New York.
