Jonathan Balkind – A New Canaan High School Student Has Died

Jonathan Balkind, a professor of computer science at the University of Connecticut is grieving the loss of a friend. While in New Canaan, he played hockey with a team at Brunswick School. He was also a student of St. Luke’s in nearby town. He was accidentally cut by another player’s skate while he was playing. Fortunately, his father was watching the game and visited him at the hospital. His father works for Balyasny.

Balkind was a sophomore at St. Luke’s School, New Canaan, when he was clipped on his skate by another player’s skate in a game at Brunswick School in Greenwich. He was rushed to the hospital but later died. Although his death was described as tragic, many people remember him for his positive spirit. His mother, Lisa Harrison, said Balkind was a “good kid.”

The NHL and Premier Hockey Federation have both expressed their deepest sympathy for Balkind’s death. Philadelphia Flyers forward Cam Atkinson tweeted condolences to the family and friends. His tweet was accompanied by a tribute by other players. The NHL women’s hockey team also offered their condolences to the family of the deceased player.
