Malcolm Butler – Patriots Cornerback

Malcolm Butler is a professional American football cornerback for the New England Patriots. He played four seasons for the Patriots, his first season as an undrafted-free agent in 2014. Prior to joining the Patriots, Butler played for the Tennessee Titans for three seasons. After he was an undrafted free agent, the Patriots signed him. Butler played college football at Tennessee and earned a business degree.

Butler was a rookie in the NFL and played in his first playoff game. That game came against the Ravens in the AFC Divisional Round. The next year, he was healthy for just three practices. He was not fully fit for six practices that season. He was then eligible for the playoffs. Butler’s career has continued its growth since the AFC Championship game was won by the Patriots.

Butler was an undrafted rookie in 2014 and has since emerged as an iconic member of the Patriots. In addition to making the game-winning interception in Super Bowl XLIX, he has since become a star for the franchise. He was named second-team All Pro in 2015. He also played in Super Bowl LI, where his interception sealed the fourth championship for the Patriots.

A former undrafted free agent, Butler worked out for the Texans and the Patriots, but he stayed loyal to New England. He signed a $9 million two-year contract. His deal won’t be signed by the Patriots until 2022 or 2023. It’s likely that Butler will return to the Patriots in 2023, following the examples of other free agents. Butler will still be able to prove his worth with the deal.

The Patriots needed a cornerback and Butler was a good choice. He has earned Pro Bowl honors, was named second-team All-Pro in 2015, and helped the Patriots win their first championship in 10 years. Although Butler’s return to New England may come as a surprise, it’s worth the effort. He will be a great player if he plays like he did in his first four seasons.

While Butler has the potential to play at a high level, his age and inexperience are major concerns. While he has the necessary experience in the NFL, it’s not likely he’ll be able to compete with the top pass catchers in the league. Wide receivers are fast, physical, and have star power, and a defensive game plan must cater to the strengths of the current players. The Patriots could add a veteran corner to their roster via free agency if he’s not a sure thing.

Malcolm Butler, who was released by the New England Patriots after Super Bowl LII, signed with the Tennessee Titans in March 2018. However, he didn’t play a down in the four seasons with the Titans. He was released from his Titans contract in 2021 and was a free agent again. Butler claimed that he had never been in bad terms with the Patriots. A year later, he retired from the NFL due to personal reasons. Despite his retirement, he announced his return to the NFL.
