Mississippi State Football 2013

With two starting receivers back from last season’s bowl game, one of the most prominent question marks for the Mississippi State football team entering 2013 is who will be the wide receiver. Two juniors are available to fill the receiver position for the Bulldogs, although there are no returning starters. Johnson is small, but quick and Lewis is explosive on kickoffs as well as in the return game.

Dak Prescott ran 33 yards and threw for 268 yard and a touchdown. His teammates also got good production from Jame Lewis, who caught seven passes for 111 yards. Although LSU’s offense was much better early on, it couldn’t keep up with the Bulldogs. Dak Prescott was able to find Landry and Beckham early on and kept the game close to its end. LSU finished the game with 563 yards total offense.

Four of the offensive line’s returning players are back. Christian Holmes and Ben Beckwith are back from last season. Christian Holmes moved from the defensive to the tight end. Both of these players should play an important role in the offense this season. The tight end position should be solid with the offense relying more on the running game than the passing game. State will be a top-ranked team in the SEC if its offense is healthy.

The Bulldogs had a solid 7-5 season and have a chance to play in a bowl game in their postseason. If they win their last two games, they might be in a “statement” game and qualify for the Big Ten Championship. But before making that prediction, Mississippi State should be able to win its bowl game and go 7-5 overall. While there are many unknowns, this team is likely to have an exciting year of football.

Although Mississippi State was struggling throughout the season, they showed improvement in the final six games. The Bulldogs performed well in six of their last six games despite having a difficult schedule. They finished 4-4 in SEC West and were unable to win Egg Bowl. The Bulldogs have a veteran team and should be able to turn the program around in 2013.

LaDarius Perrykins is one thing you should look for in Mississippi State’s defense. The junior wideout is a give-what-you-get back player. Despite being a high-quality left guard, Perkins struggled in short-yardage situations. However, his size and experience should make up for his lackluster play. In addition, the Bulldogs’ offensive line should be solid.

The Mississippi State football schedule is also filled with winnable games. In addition to a few favored opponents, the season kicks off against Oklahoma State and Troy. There are also many other winnable games on the schedule, including those against Troy and Auburn, LSU, LSU and Ole Miss. While the schedule looks tough, it contains some good games that should give fans a reason to be excited. So let’s take a closer look at what the team’s 2013 schedule entails.
