New Edition was a Boston-based R&B band. Many saw them as a precursor to boy bands like the Spice Girls and the Backstreet Boys. In 1983, Candy Girl was the first album released by the group. Producer Maurice Starr discovered the group. The band released New Edition, which featured the singles “Cool It Now”, and “Mr. Telephone Man.” New Edition released more albums and continued touring. They were also honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in January 2017. A day before the BET premiere of The New Edition Story, New Edition received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
