New Iberia Shooting

Police in New Iberia are investigating a shooting that killed one man Tuesday night. The shooting happened in the 700 block of Providence. The shooting took place at 9:30 p.m. The victim, a 24-year-old man, was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the sidewalk. He was declared dead at a local hospital.

After being charged with seven murder counts, Amiri Benoit is currently being held on a $10,000,000 bond. He was previously held on a $400K bond. In March of 2022, Benoit allegedly opened fire on his home. He is currently being held at the Iberia Parish Jail.

They are believed to be travelling in a grey Dodge Challenger with temporary license plate 20209092. Police say that the suspects are believed to be traveling in a getaway car. The New Iberia Police are following up on leads and expect to have more information on the shooting on Monday.
