New Orleans Pelicans Depth Chart

The New Orleans Pelicans have a plethora of options at point guard this season. Rajon Rondo has moved to Los Angeles and there is new competition for the starting position. Elfrid Payton is expected to start at point guard while Jrue Holiday will likely move to shooting guard. The best starting lineup is not yet known.

The depth chart is updated daily and includes players on the team by position. There is some uncertainty, but there are always opportunities to improve. In particular, the New Orleans pelicans are interested in bringing back Derrick Favors. New Orleans made a trade for Favors to the Utah Jazz in the summer. Favors has since averaged 11.8 point and 7.4 rebounds per game in just over 20 minutes, while shooting at 58.6 percentage from three.

The New Orleans Pelicans will also be adding some new faces. E.J., the 41st pick in NBA draft, was selected. Liddell, who played at Ohio State, is a versatile player who can play both forward and center. He can also shoot the 3-ball. He could enter the rotation right away. Another new player that could potentially make an impact is Karlo Matkovic, the 52nd overall pick. He is a 6-foot-11 forward/center and will spend some time in G-League. Both players are expected to spend some time overseas as well.

With 14 players under contract for the 2018-19 season, the Pelicans are expected to make a few moves before the regular season begins. Anthony Davis is expected to consume a large portion of the minutes. This makes the depth chart even more important. Last season, he averaged 37 minutes per game. He could still have backup centers like Emeka Okafor and Jahlil Okafor.

Three players were also drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA Draft. Zion Williamson is projected as a power forward, but he can play a variety of positions on the court. The versatility of Zion Williamson is a plus for this team. In fantasy leagues, Williamson’s ability to switch between positions could be a plus. Favors and Ingram both have potential in the NBA and there is a lot to be done.

Josh Hart has been a reliable reserve for the Pelicans. In the next few seasons, Hart will sign a multi-year contract with the Pelicans. The deal will pay Hart $38 million over three-years. Hart is expected to be one of the 15 guaranteed contracts for the Pelicans in the 2021-22 season.

In addition to Nola, the New Orleans Pelicans also have two young guards in Lonzo Ball and Tomas Satoransky. While neither player is a great shooter, both have shown some potential.
