On December 12, the boys and girls basketball teams from New Trier will face off in a doubleheader at Northwestern University’s Welsh-Ryan Arena. The girls’ game tips off at 6 p.m. and the boys’ game begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for both games are $10 for adults and $5 for students. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation will benefit from the proceeds of the tickets. The proceeds will go to research and education to combat breast cancer.
The New Trier basketball team has a record of 25-3 overall. They have beaten many teams ranked in top five. A few state-ranked prospects, such as Jaden Schutt who has signed with Duke, are part of the team’s roster. The team’s success is a result of its chemistry and dedication. Despite some early struggles, the team persevered and eventually achieved success.
New Trier was held without a field goal by Evanston’s defenders for almost six minutes in the decisive quarter. After a few Gieser baskets, a 3-pointer by Bost, and a couple of layups by Jack Tully, Evanston jumped out to a comfortable lead of 56-45. The Wildkits never got closer to seven points during the game.
The boys’ varsity basketball team topped Niles West on Feb. 1. The team tied Glenbrook South for the conference lead with the win. The team won the game on both ends of the floor. The boys varsity basketball team is ranked No. 2 in the most recent Associated Press Class 4A poll.
New Trier is located within a wealthy suburb of Chicago. Many students are able to afford expensive clothing because of this. Some students even experiment with heroin and cocaine. By the time they reach their sophomore year, most of them are nearly alcoholics. This is due to having too much money and too much time, as well as parents who work constantly.
Nick Martinelli is the younger brother of Jimmy and Dom Martinelli. He helped lead Glenbrook South to a sectional championship in the boys’ basketball sectional. New Trier was defeated 55-52 by the Panthers in that game. The victory was the Panthers’ first ever in Sectional Playoffs. Nick Martinelli scored 12 points, grabbed six rebounds, and made 5-of-6 free throws in the game.
