Our Lady of Good Counsel New Orleans

Seven years ago, the Our Lady of Good Counsel Church was in danger of closure. Protesters were harassed and threatened by police as they tried to save the historic Catholic Church. However, after protesters won, the church reopened in the presence of Archbishop Gregory Aymond. The church received a $2 million facelift thanks to Monsignor Christopher Nalty, the congregation’s monsignor. It also got a new roof.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Church was once the heart of a parish and served the community for over a century. Hurricane Katrina caused the closure of many other Catholic churches, including the parish. As the Archdiocese of New Orleans recovered from the storm, the church was reorganized. This caused a public rift between Catholics. It also caused financial hardships for Archdiocese.
