Sean McVay, the Georgia High School Player of the Year, Talks to GPB Podcast Host Alan Chadwick

After a meteoric rise in the coaching ranks, Sean McVay won the 2003 Georgia high school football player award. As a high school player, he led Marist to the state championship. In this GPB podcast, Jon Nelson looks at some of his most impressive plays and talks with legendary Marist coach Alan Chadwick. This interview is presented in part two. After a successful playing career, McVay switched to coaching and became an offensive assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McVay has been a coach since 2008, and has coached wide receivers as well as quarterbacks. McVay and Johnson were each awarded the honor three times as player of the Year. McVay, currently the Los Angeles Rams’ head coach, was a top-two-star recruit when joining the team.

The Los Angeles Rams head coach is the son of former Channel 2 general manager Tim McVay. Sean grew up in Atlanta and had dreams of being a Julian Edelman-esque fireplug receiver. After college, he took a coaching job with Jon Gruden and worked his way up the organization. He was the youngest NFL head coach in 2017 McVay is a natural broadcaster and coach.

McVay was a top soccer player before he entered Marist. He led Sandy Creek to the 2003 state championship, beating future NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Chadwick mentioned McVay’s exceptional leadership skills as a high-school athlete. The Marist quarterback credits his father for the knowledge and leadership he possesses. If he wins the Super Bowl, he will be the most valuable player in the NFL.

In addition to his coaching duties, Sean McVay won two games in his first season in the NFL. He won two games against both the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, and lost one to Philadelphia Eagles. The Rams finished the season with a record of 14-3 overall, an increase of one game over last season. They reached the playoffs for only the second time since 2004. The Rams also ranked in the top scoring offense in the league.

The Los Angeles Rams’ young head coach is also the youngest in the NFL. McVay has won four Super Bowls, compared to Taylor. In addition, he is the youngest coach to reach the Super Bowl. Despite his youth, his success in coaching makes him a popular figure in the sports world. It is unlikely that he will win the award for most coach.
