Sheltie Aussie Mix

A Sheltie Aussie Mix is a cross between the Australian Shepherd and Shetland Sheepdog. These two breeds have similar characteristics and are a good match for those who want a dog that can herd livestock. The Shel-Aussie can grow to be a large dog, but it is usually medium-sized. You might consider breeding an Australian Shepherd miniature with a Sheltie if you are looking for a smaller dog.

A Shel-Aussie is a great herding breed, but it may not be right in every household. They are very loyal, but are prone to becoming overly clingy and devoted. If you have other pets in your home, this breed will fit in fine. But, if you’re looking for a companion that won’t cause your children to get into trouble, a Shel-Aussie mix is probably not the best choice for you.

Shel-Aussie hybrids are known for their long, straight coats with thick hair. Like their parents, the Shel-Aussie has large, almond-shaped eyes. A Shel-Aussie mix may have one eye that is almond-shaped and one that is round. A Shel-Aussie hybrid may also have eyes of a different color. Interestingly, both breeds share a long, bobbed tail.

Shelties require twice-week grooming. De-shedding tools are necessary for their dense undercoat. When grooming a Sheltie make sure to clean its ears. A sheltie’s hair grows at an average rate of an inch every two months. To avoid shedding, brush it in long, gentle strokes. You might consider getting a shorter-haired dog if you are uncomfortable with this.

You can have shelties in any color. Black and blue are the most popular colors. Shelties with blue merle fur may be black and merle-colored. The tan color could be a tri-color mix, or a blue-merle Sheltie mixed with black and blue. Generally, the color of this breed is more similar to a tri-color Sheltie with some modifications.

A Cosheltie can weigh from twenty to thirty pounds and grow from sixteen to twenty-three inches. Although a Sheltie can be paired with an Australian Shepherd miniature, they can still be as intelligent as their parent breeds. Although this small breed is highly intelligent, they need plenty of socialization to avoid barking problems. They also need to be trained to interact with other animals and children and should be supervised by an adult at all times.

Mora, a Sheltie/Aussie mix of one year and a half old, keeps watch over two Australian Shepherds who have special needs. She has the eyes and ears of the two famous actors Zane Grey and Kooper, and she’s super fast and agile. Tangled Lilac Photography has SheltieAussie mix dogs available for adoption in Flagstaff, Sedona and the greater Phoenix region.

The Sheltie is an intelligent, sociable, and playful dog. The Shetland Sheepdog is highly trainable and sensitive, and they should live in a loving home with other animals and people. They should be taught to be gentle with strangers and children, and to stop barking. They are affectionate and protective. This is a great dog for those who are looking for a dog that is easy to train.
