Steve Fittery Breaks Down His Claw Ride Series

Watch Fittery demonstrate his signature claw ride series, which can turn opponents from various positions and account for many of his bonus point victories.

Fittery was twice national champion at Shippensburg before going on to become an in-demand high school and camp coach, becoming especially sought-after at Cocalico for his outstanding work ethic and strong teaching style.

Early Life and Education

Steve Fittery came to American University as a highly esteemed wrestler. Two-time national runner up while competing at Shippensburg, he had also captured both PSAC championships and Eastern Region crowns before arriving.

Fittery wrestles an open, aggressive style. He is well known for exerting himself during practices to the point of exhaustion; often leaving Cody speechless at practice time. “There aren’t many days that he doesn’t leave the room completely wiped out,” Cody stated.

Fittery’s work ethic has propelled him to the top of his class. He serves as an inspiration to Matt Fittery, his younger brother who competes at 141 pounds for Lock Haven. They enjoy friendly rivalry but remain supportive at competitions. Alongside coaching American wrestlers, Fittery runs a youth wrestling camp in Pennsylvania.

Professional Career

Fittery has proven his mettle in college wrestling despite hailing from an obscure southeast Pennsylvania town that lacks its own post office, where he’s held his own by pinning six opponents, earning one major decision and one technical fall for American University at 157 pounds this season.

He led American University’s Eagles to an all-time program best finish of 14th place at the NCAA Championships, alongside fellow juniors Michael Cannon and Kyle Borshoff who also earned All-American recognition.

Fittery then spent his fall volunteering his time at Higher Achievement, an afterschool program located near Washington D.C. that provides tutoring and mentoring services for students. He mentored three young children over the course of the fall term, and is looking forward to continuing this work into the future – perhaps studying coaching or education further down the line?

Achievement and Honors

Steve Fittery has come close to claiming the pinnacle prize of wrestling twice. He credits his faith for keeping him from becoming frustrated and quitting the sport altogether.

Last season, he defeated seven nationally-ranked wrestlers and led the Eagles with 33 individual wins, 14 falls and seven tech falls. Additionally, he won two Midlands Championships titles as well as being recognized with an All-American award.

He holds three PSAC championships and earned two East Region crowns prior to attending American. Additionally, he was honored as a first-team Academic All-American as a member of Central PA Fellowship of Christian Athletes and had extensive camp and youth coaching experience as well. Matt currently competes at 149 pounds for Lock Haven University.

Personal Life

Fittery’s faith has served him well while striving to reach the pinnacle of his sport. Over the past three seasons, he has come close: winning silver as a Cocalico senior and finishing second at Division II nationals during both of his first two Shippensburg years.

He makes sure to put in intense work in practice: “There aren’t too many days I leave here completely exhausted,” he states.

Fittery, an HPE teacher with a minor in athletic coaching, hopes to one day become a school principal or superintendent. He relishes spending time with his family – particularly his brother Matt who wrestles at Lock Haven University and competed in this year’s NCAA Championships – with whom they share a healthy competitive relationship as they cheer each other’s successes with great joy.

Net Worth

Over the years, he has made investments in real estate which have increased his net worth considerably. Furthermore, he generates some income through music royalties as well.

He has also published several books, such as Above the Walls of Lucca set during World War I Italy and detailing families who reside on and run vineyards within its locale.

Steve was a close ally of former Prime Minister of Britain David Cameron and played an active role in various political issues affecting Britain. In fact, his appearance was parodied on BBC satire show The Thick of It!

He is a wealthy individual living a comfortable lifestyle, boasting two beautiful children and an exquisite wife. Additionally, he strongly backs environmental causes as an avid supporter of Democratic politics.
