Steve Flatt is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tennessee-based National HealthCare Corporation, one of America’s oldest publicly traded senior healthcare companies. An avid investor with a diverse portfolio, Mr. Flatt also maintains his position.

Early Life and Education

Steve Flatt is a highly intelligent individual who excelled at basketball as a student at Lipscomb University, becoming one of its greatest ever players and earning one of its most distinguished honors in school history. Additionally, Steve is deeply immersed in his community service work; serving on several boards.

Additionally, he was named as one of Nashville Journal’s Healthcare Heroes in 2009. Since joining NHC as Senior Vice President of Development in 2005 and was promoted to CEO in 2009.

His efforts have helped the company expand significantly. He takes great joy in spending quality time with his family. Coffee in the morning and a crackling fire at night are his favorite treats; in addition, he enjoys buying punny cards as gifts and watching British mysteries for entertainment.

Professional Career

Flatt began his business career as an accountant but transitioned into real estate shortly thereafter. After joining Brascan, an almost collapsed developer in the wake of the dot-com crash, and helping stabilize it with smart deals. Today he leads Brookfield Asset Management, an $800 billion alternative manager with real estate, infrastructure and private equity operations headquartered out of Winnipeg.

Flatt served as president of Lipscomb University from 1997 to 2005 and previously held positions with them such as senior vice president for development and admissions as well as being pastor at Madison Church of Christ. Today he sits on the executive committee for Post Acute Care Council as well as being an active member of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and Nashville Inner City Ministry.

He is an avid golfer and loves spending time with his children and grandchildren. While quick with jokes and repartee, he also appreciates quiet times spent reading or solving crossword puzzles.

Steve Flatt graduated from Lipscomb University in 1977 where he excelled on both basketball and academics, being named MVP three consecutive seasons and boasting outstanding grades. After several years with Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys, Flatt and Scruggs joined forces and founded the Foggy Mountain Boys – this classic band brought bluegrass music into national consciousness through radio shows and recordings.

Flatt is currently CEO of National Healthcare Corporation in Nashville, the nation’s oldest publicly listed senior healthcare company. He joined this company in 2005 as senior vice president of development before being promoted into his current role in 2009. Prior to that he served on Lipscomb University board.

Flatt is an avid believer in traditional family values. He graduated from Lipscomb University where he played on their men’s team from 1973-1977.
