Early Life and Education

Kalil began his culinary career by helping expand Steve’s Backroom restaurant chain during the late 70s. Later he worked at both The Cheesecake Factory and Chilli’s Grill and Bar before joining PepsiCo/Frito Lay in July 2007 as the company’s inaugural corporate chef using Culinology (an integrated approach combining culinary design with consumer insights, food science, and technology) to guide product innovation.

Kalil was raised by his single parent mother in Campbelltown Western Sydney, Australia before immigrating to the United States when he was seven. After attending Manchester Central High School he went on to earn a dental degree at University of New Hampshire. Sadly he passed away shortly thereafter leaving behind his wife Madeleine Dionne Kalil of Vero Beach; sons Frederick H. Kalil Jr, Peter Kalil of Arlington MA and Stephen Kalil from Bedford New Hampshire as well as daughter Jamelle Kalil Merriam of Manlius New York among many loved ones.

Professional Career

Kalil has made an immediate impactful statement to Carolina Panthers fans since his rookie year with two First-Team All-Pro selections and participation in two Super Bowl games. While offensive lineman don’t often reach Hall of Fame status, Kalil stands a good chance of joining its ranks someday.

He’s still adapting to Carolina quarterback Cam Newton, who prefers taking deeper drops in the pocket than most NFL passers and holding onto the ball longer compared to most. Coach Ron Rivera believes Kalil is making progress despite two sacks last week against New Orleans, even though two were allowed.

Kalil has also found great pleasure in filmmaking, having directed multiple claymation shorts and co-founding Mortal Media with fellow USC alum Blake Griffin.

John is an alumnus of the University of North Florida and an honor society member in Phi Sigma Kappa, as well as having participated in Stetson College of Law’s Trial Advocacy Program.

Kalil was honored with two Memorial Grants presented by the Michael Kalil Endowment at Parsons School of Design. These grants recognize students whose work honors his legacy. Established in 2001 in memory of designer Michael Kalil who died earlier that year; Kalil is married and has two children.

Additionally, he belongs to American Association for Justice and Jacksonville Area Legal Aid as a trial lawyer member; currently practicing in Jacksonville area having tried over 29 trials since joining them as well.
