Steve Moreland
Steve Moreland is a former professional lacrosse player and current coach. Currently he heads up the Governor’s Academy men’s lacrosse team – co-champions of ISL his inaugural season (2018) under him! Additionally he acts as color analyst on WGN-AM Longhorn football and baseball broadcasts, filling in for Cubs broadcasts as needed and serves as color analyst on WGN-AM sportscasts featuring Longhorn football or baseball games.
Early Life and Education
Steve Moreland grew up on his parents’ ranch in Nebraska’s Sandhills. While in high school he played in both school bands and garage bands until realizing he must relocate if he were to make music his living.
Moreland began his professional life working alongside his grandfather and father at their family’s Automatic Spring Products Corporation plant in Wooster during summers of high school and college, learning the business from its infancy. Following graduation from college he went to work for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a metallurgical failure analyst.
Moreland saw ranching not just as an occupation but as a way of life with his wife and children, adopting methods that would withstand drought, hail storms, shifting fashion trends, plenty or want.
Professional Career
Moreland is more than a baseball first baseman; he is also an author and speaker, partner at Morrison Foerster law firm and co-chair of San Diego Corporate Group. Additionally, Moreland sits on several boards such as EvoNexus and San Diego Blood Bank.
Moreland has released multiple albums with his Black Gold Band and Dust Bowl Souls bands; most recently his fifth release LP5 was made available to purchase on February 7, 2020.
Moreland discusses his journey into strength and conditioning before it even existed, coaching Olympic champions and Paralympic athletes as he did, working across continents as a Strength & Conditioning coach, building integrated Christian world views that translate to church life, as well as creating integrated Christian worldviews that are translated through church life.
Achievement and Honors
Moreland may not be well-known, but her educational work is widely respected. According to Bleed Cubbie Blue, Moreland is considered one of its “Top 100 Cubs of All Time.” Moreland has also been described as an outstanding teacher and community leader.
She has long been an advocate for students with behavioral challenges. Known for her tenacity and willingness to rise to any challenge, she coaches UIL academic events as well as provides math skills training for struggling students.
She also served as head coach of Governor’s Academy’s boys lacrosse team, and due to her expertise was named assistant coach at Tufts this year – marking a first for New England prep schools that hire Division 3 coaches for their programs.
Personal Life
Steve was known for his gentle nature and was loved by all who knew him. A loving family man, an effective coach and mentor for his players and an outstanding partner at Morrison Foerster law firm – these were just some of the attributes which distinguished Steve.
Moreland was found guilty of mail fraud and money laundering and sentenced to 18 years of incarceration. On appeal he claimed the prosecution improperly cross-examined non-essential witnesses; received inadequate counsel assistance; failed to grant a reasonable continuance; violated his due process rights; and gave incorrect jury instructions.
Moreland leaves behind his beloved wife Cindy and two sons Ryan and Jeff along with their families. He treasured spending time with his loved ones as well as travelling the globe; reading was another passion of his and he was always up for an adventure!

Moreland reportedly boasts an estimated net worth of around $32 Million. He earned this fortune as an American singer-songwriter as well as being director of fine arts at St Michael’s Catholic Academy in Austin, Texas.
His passion is music and he has an effective way of engaging people through it, earning rave reviews both from audiences and critics alike. Additionally, he’s very open about his personal life; often posting photos of himself and wife on social media and never hesitates to show their relationship off as being very much in love. They have been married eight years already with no plans of starting a family yet!
