Early Life and Education

Motter was a three-year letter winner in baseball at his high school, leading them to victory in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference and being recognized with All-Ohio status. Additionally, he played summer ball for Steubenville American Legion Post 33.

In 1984, he married Vicki Cunningham and gained three stepchildren – Scott Cunningham (Terri), Holly Everett (Mark) and Matthew Cunningham – all of whom survive him along with Georgia Marshall, Thomas Adams and Frances Lexutt as siblings and many nieces and nephews.

Oklahoma Library Association awarded him with the Robert T. Motter Vendor Appreciation Award, given annually to vendors who have participated at OLA conferences for an extended period and made significant contributions towards supporting libraries and the association.

Professional Career

Since 2011, Motter has played for five minor league teams – Bowling Green Hot Rods, Tampa Bay Rays, Charlotte Stone Crabs Montgomery Biscuits, Durham Bulls. He made two Major League appearances with Tampa Bay Rays where he hit.188 during limited chances.

Recently, he was added to the Boston Red Sox 40-man roster after being claimed off waivers from Colorado Rockies. Previously playing Triple-A Albuquerque where his hitting line stood at an outstanding.263/.352/.482.

OverDrive was honored at the Oklahoma Library Association Conference held March 9, 2023 with the Robert T. Motter Vendor Appreciation Award, an accolade which recognizes vendors that have demonstrated consistent participation at Oklahoma Library Association conferences as well as provided high levels of service to Oklahoma libraries.

Achievement and Honors

Motter was an Ocean Lakes team captain during high school and competed in both Swimming and Cross Country for their team, winning multiple district and regional 100 Freestyle titles before serving as team captain himself. Additionally, Motter coached varsity soccer at Ferndale and Capac high schools.

Motter was designated for assignment over the weekend by the Cardinals but will likely rejoin their major league club soon. He provides middle infield cover behind Brendan Donovan, Tommy Edman and primary designated hitter Paul DeJong; in terms of career batting line it reads.192/.264/.310 in MLB play.

Personal Life

Motter’s personal life revolves around his family and church. He enjoys spending time with his wife, children, friends and teammates at church as well as his affinity for baseball (he played KBO League with Kiwoom Heroes).

He is married and proudly fathers two daughters. In his free time, he enjoys reading and watching movies. Additionally, he has written several books.
