The 1992 Raiders and Bengals

The 1992 Raiders and Bengals season was a close one for both teams. The Raiders won, but the Bengals won AFC Championship Game. Derek Carr was also diagnosed with a fractured hip, and avascular necrosis. The Raiders won despite Carr’s injury. The Bengals won the Super Bowl and the AFC West title.

The Raiders’ defense held Cincinnati to a 14-14 lead at halftime, and the Raiders scored two touchdowns to pull within one. Cincinnati responded with a 20-yard rushing touchdown from RB Larry Fitzgerald. The Raiders went on to win their only two post-season games against the Bengals. But the Raiders haven’t been this dominant since the 1988 season.

The Raiders finally got their vengeance with a win over Bengals. Despite not having a great year, the Raiders won four straight and earned a playoff spot. And Jacobs has rediscovered his form from his first two seasons, gaining 324 yards in three consecutive games. On Sunday, he gained 69 yards on a TD run against the Chargers, setting up a kick by Jon Carlson.

The Bengals lost their last playoff game against the Houston Oilers in 1992. They had just won the previous week, but lost to the Raiders just a week after. It is possible that the Bengals can end this drought this season. The Bengals haven’t won a playoff match since 1991. This season’s playoff appearance will mark the team’s seventh in eight years.

The 1993 season marked the last time the Raiders and Bengals met. Bo Jackson’s injury ended Jackson’s playing career after that season. The Bengals lost that season in the Wild Card Round, and they did not return for three seasons. From 2009 to 2014, the Bengals lost the Wild Card Round five times. However, the Bengals reached the postseason for the first time since 1992 with the 1995 season.

The 1992 Bengals finished with a 5-11 record and finished fourth in the NFL’s Central Division. They scored 274 points but surrendered 364 points. Their offense included Harold Green, who ran for more than 1,000 yards and Boomer Esiason who threw for 1,407 yard. Tim McGee and Carl Pickens both contributed to the receiving game. Darryl Williams intercepted four throws from the opposing team, while Alfred Williams led pass rushers with ten quarterback sacks.
