The new Toyota Supra’s power plant is not the 2JZ engine that has been a favorite of many drivers. Instead, it’s a BMW motor that promises to be more powerful and efficient. Its top speed remains electronically limited at 155 mph. The new engine also features a manual transmission with paddles on the steering wheel.
The new Supra has a lighter engine, and a new packaging system that improves handling. The engine is more inboard than in the previous model, and this allows it to rotate better around corners. It’s also smaller than the previous model, so it’s a much more efficient engine.

The new Supra is powered by a 3.0-liter Twin-Scroll Single-Turbo DOHC 24-valve inline six-cylinder engine. It produces 382 horsepower and 368 pounds-feet torque. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The Supra 2.0 model will have a top track speed of 155 mph and can reach a 0-60 mph time of 5.0 seconds. This engine is also capable of 22 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway.
The new Supra is tuned by Toyota GAZOO Racing. It was tested extensively on the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany and the surrounding roads. Toyota’s engineers also conducted extensive testing around the world to ensure optimal performance. The engine is a 1,998 cc DOHC 16-valve petrol engine with twin-scroll turbocharging. Its aim is to provide agile acceleration and maximum torque.
