What Is a Party Schnauzer?

You’ve heard of Party Schnauzers and have probably wondered how they look like. In this article we’ll go over a few of the most important characteristics of this breed. If you’re a dog owner, the party schnauzer is definitely an option to consider. After all, a party schnauzer is the perfect dog for parties! What exactly is a Party Schnauzer?

Parti schnauzers are registered with the AKC. While this breed has been around since the early 1900’s, it’s only now that the AKC is fully registering the breed. Although they’re registered, they cannot compete in confirmation events. That being said, the breed is still a popular choice among pet owners because of its loyal and affectionate temperament. However, it can be a difficult dog to take care of.

The Parti coloration of the Party Schnauzer comes in all the basic black and brown based colors accepted by the Breed Standard. This color pattern can include large saddles of color or freckles of color anywhere on the body. Parti can occur on pure white dogs as well. They also have a masking gene, which will give them a white tail or chest. Despite the white coat and the characteristic pattern, they are still considered purebred dogs.

In 1933, the Pinscher-Schnauzer Klub banned Parti colored Miniature Schnauzers. They were also banned by the German PSK. This resulted in a long period of persecution for the breed. However, in the US, breeders have been able to revive the almost extinct colors of the Parti Schnauzer. While the German PSK banned the breed in 1933, some of the Parti Schnauzers did survive.

Some of the common problems associated with the Parti color Schnauzer are: cataracts (cloudy lens) and entropion (rolling of the eyelid inward). The Black Schnauzer is completely black while the Liver Pepper is brown and yellow. Surgically correcting the problem improves vision. Entropion (rolling inward of the eyelid) can also lead to irritation of the eyeball.

Although a Parti Schnauzer is a rare breed, it has the same temperament and personality as a Standard Schnauzer. Parti Schnauzers are typically white with black patches. Although they are not a recognized breed by the American Kennel Club, they are a popular companion dog and show dog. These pets are playful, intelligent, and lovable, making them a wonderful choice for a family pet.
