Writing Effective Supporting Details

As a writer, you should make sure that your supporting details do not stray too far from the main point. Each sentence and paragraph should point back to the main point. For example, a paragraph about disloyal cats does not belong in a paragraph about dogs. A supporting paragraph about dogs should focus on facts about dogs. If you divert your readers’ attention away from your main idea, they may lose interest and turn to other topics.
