The UFC 251 purse is currently unknown, but Jorge Masvidal has said that he needed a massive monetary guarantee to agree to fight in the main event. Masvidal was appointed to replace Gilbert Burns who had to withdraw from the event because of coronavirus. Earlier this year, Masvidal had been expected to fight Kamaru Usman, but that fight was scrapped when his opponent tested positive for a coronavirus. Although Masvidal is a high earner, he said he would not fight Usman unless he was paid a huge amount to meet him.
The UFC has a long history of pay problems, and Masvidal has been one of its biggest critics. He once claimed that he would only accept a $5 million pay deal if it came with a “monstrous” guarantee. Jake Paul laughed at that offer and said it was “chump money.”
The two main event fighters earned around $300k apiece, with Usman earning $600k plus a promotion bonus of $30k. In the co-main event, featherweight champion Volkanovski won on a controversial decision against Max Holloway. The UFC 251 purse also featured a highly contested fight between Gamebred (Gilbert Burns) Both fighters earned an average of $200,000 each, but Masvidal received more in the final payout.
The UFC has yet to release a total PPV bonus for UFC 251, but Masvidal pocketed $750,000 to turn up for the fight. Additionally, Masvidal received a $50,000 sponsorship bonus for winning the ‘Performance of the Night’ award. In addition, Masvidal received another $400,000 in pay for his troubles. Chris Weidman also received reimbursement from the UFC for his injuries in the UFC 251 fight.
Masvidal earned PS400,000 for his win over Kamaru Usman in UFC 251. The Argentinian has won more than $600k in the last three years. The UFC 251 main event was also the most underwhelming fight of the night. Both fighters can expect millions in compensation for their next fights. Although it was a very tense fight, both fighters were able to make a lot of money.
