The idea of agricultural forums dates back as far as the 1990s when internet pioneers and agricultural magazines started offering forums for farmers. It was quickly abandoned the idea of creating an online forum for farmers. Many people couldn’t access these commercial websites due to slow dial-up speeds. These sites also took too long for graphics and ads to download. Thousands of people visit the site regularly, yet many do not register to post messages.
Orr owns the original AgTalk Internet address, which is moderated by volunteers. It is not for profit and is operated by an informal board of advisers. The site recently added a Kitchen Table section that welcomes more women to contribute. Members love the SMASH Bash. Orr’s original vision was to bring the ag community closer together through forums like this. He is not satisfied with the results.
