Early Life and Education

Steve Tate moved to Holiday Lakes in 1977 when Morgan Hill was still predominantly rural with only two traffic lights, so quickly became involved in local politics by serving on a General Plan Update committee – that experience ignited his passion for ensuring Morgan Hill grew sustainably while safeguarding quality of life for residents.

He was also actively engaged in building projects that enhanced the city’s civic prestige; particularly instrumental in driving forward a new library project.

He remains active in Morgan Hill as a volunteer, especially with children and senior citizens. He regularly volunteers at the library’s bookstore as well as serving on multiple nonprofit boards. Furthermore, he lends leadership for Rotary Club Interact program with high school students.

Professional Career

Tate took an unconventional path after graduating from RLC with an associate degree in electronic maintenance: He decided to return to college to pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Tate announced his decision at Morgan Hill’s city council meeting and was met with warm applause. He noted his motivations behind stepping down were due to the intangible value he provided over 27 years as local government.

He was an ardent Utah football supporter, helping create the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship to remember its late running back and award it annually to deserving seniors.

Tate Theatrics, his production company, has produced regional, Broadway, off-Broadway and London productions over its twenty year existence. Jacob/Guru/Potiphar in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and several plays and musicals written by Tate himself were performed during that period.
