Early Life and Education
A key issue in the social determinants of health is early childhood development and education. Many studies have shown that children who do not receive healthy, nurturing impulses in their early years adapt to environments that negatively affect them later on.
In the United States, early childhood education and care (ECEC) is a multi-faceted and diverse field of public policy. It responds to the changing work roles and composition of families, equalizes life opportunities for low-income children, assists in the assimilation of immigrants, and enhances child development.
The ECEC field in the United States includes a wide variety of publicly provided part-day, full-school-day, and full-work-day programs under educational, social welfare, and commercial auspices. These programs are characterized sometimes by an emphasis on “care” and at other times by an equal focus on “education.”
John Sterner has worked with a number of organizations in his career. Currently, he is a financial advisor at Northwestern Mutual in Chattanooga.
He has been helping people achieve financial independence for over 19 years. During this time, he has built a team of highly-skilled professionals who share his vision of guiding clients toward a point where they can educate their children, transition their businesses or go into retirement without any worry.
In addition to his professional life, he is also an art teacher at Lakeview Schools in Cottonwood. He was surprised by his fellow students and staff when he received the Prairie Star Award from SMAC last month.
