Despite his quiet beginnings at Notre Dame, Zack Martin has become one of the nation’s top offensive linemen in this draft class. He is a three-year starter who set a school record with 52 career starts. He can play either guard or tackle, but his greatest strength is his ability to play both. Martin, despite his redshirt year at Notre Dame has made it to the NFL draft. He should be picked around number 21 overall. Martin is similar to Nick, his younger brother and ND’s starting centre in 2013.
The Notre Dame offensive has recorded a record eight sacks in four seasons. Three of those sacks were also produced by the Irish defense. With Martin as the best blocker, the Irish’s offensive line was able to prevent many of those sacks and has been named second-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Martin is expected to be a first round pick in the upcoming draft, due to his impressive senior bowl practice. He will be the second highest draft pick if he is selected in round 1.
The sophomore was a key member of the 12-3 Indiana Class 3A state championship team. His high school team won the state championship with a 14-1 record.
