Dallas Cowboys – 2011 NFL Draft

The Dallas Cowboys were the kings of 2010 and dreamed of playing in Super Bowl XLV. Wade Phillips was fired, and Jason Garrett proved that he was worthy of being head coach. Unfortunately, Alan Ball was awful in his final season as a starter. However, the Cowboys will have plenty of free safety options on Day 2 of the 2011 NFL Draft. Here are some things to remember about this season.

The Cowboys’ offensive line is a concern. The Cowboys have lost two of their weakest links from last year’s season, leaving the line thin. Last year’s starters were replaced by Tyron Smith, a rookie in the first round, and Montrae Holland, an overweight veteran. The Cowboys will also be vulnerable against the pass which could limit their chances of reaching the playoffs. While the line is thin, there are plenty of holes to fill.

The Dallas Cowboys could use more help in the secondary, which was one of their weak areas this season. The front seven was not as strong as it has been in recent years. DeMarcus Ware, Sean Lee, and Sean Lee had great years in the past. Defensively, the Cowboys could use another push quarterback. However, maintaining a pass rush was not the biggest problem this season.

There are many young players in Dallas Cowboys that need to step up. Some veteran players are expected to be part of the team in 2011. There are still questions on the roster. Some of them could end up being cut if they don’t get a new player in free agency. One of them is Terence Newman, who had 79 tackles last season. The Cowboys also lost UDFA Gerald Sensabaugh in the offseason. However, he will be back at left cornerback.

With Romo back, it is possible that third-tier wide receiver Miles Austin could break out in 2011. With his first season as a starter, Austin’s numbers could jump to 1,300-1,600 yards and eight to 11 touchdowns. On the other hand, Austin could be overdrafted compared to Dez Bryant, who could end up surpassing 1,000 yards and becoming an instant touchdown. If you’re looking for a cheap, reliable and underrated WR, Miles Austin is an excellent pick.

Ryan is also concerned about the secondary. Ryan is also concerned about the secondary. Last season’s struggles were due to ineptitude. The Cowboys surrendered 33 passing touchdowns, which tied them for the most in Texas. In fact, the Cowboys allowed a league-high 66 percent of their total points. They were ranked seventh nationally last year. A few key players need to step up in this area.

The Cowboys have made improvements to their offensive line. Right tackle Tyron Smith was selected with the ninth overall pick. However, he is still young so he will need to adjust to the professional game. Kyle Kosier, who switched from left guard to right guard last season, is another option to improve the interior of the line. Although Kosier is a potential player, the interior still needs to be strengthened.
