John Kopicki – New Superintendent of Schools in

North Carolina

John Kopicki, the former superintendent of the Central Bucks School District, has been named the next chief of Cabarrus County Schools in North Carolina. He will take over August 16th, 2021.

Kopicki has been in the public education sector for more than 28 years. He began his career in 1992 as a high school social studies teacher in Scranton. He also served as a principal and assistant principal for the school district.

Early Life and Education

John Kopicki is a highly experienced and successful education administrator with a rich background in public schools. He began his career as a high school social studies teacher in Scranton and has worked in both the classroom and at the district level.

He has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and a master’s degree in school leadership from Marywood University. He also earned a doctoral degree in educational administration from Temple University.

During his tenure at Central Bucks, Kopicki developed and implemented a five-year vision for the school district that focused on technology, finance, facilities and operations, teaching and learning, and community connections.

He also facilitated a major study of the district’s overcrowded elementary schools, and has worked with architects to advise the board on new buildings. Ultimately, Kopicki’s most significant accomplishment at Central Bucks was the completion of a five-year strategic plan that included a focus on technology, financial stability, student achievement and community connections.

Professional Career

John Kopicki has a long professional career in education. He served as the superintendent of schools for the Altoona Area School District and will now be the next superintendent in Central Bucks School District, beginning July 1.

In his professional career, he has been very successful. He is passionate about working with students, children, teens and adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, life adjustments, or career transitions.

He also works with families who have been impacted by the criminal justice system.

He is excited to begin his new position in Altoona. He says he is looking forward to meeting the community and getting to know them. He also hopes to be able to make the district more safe.

During his time as superintendent of Central Bucks School District, John Kopicki met the board’s goals in five areas: technology, finance, facilities and operations, teaching and learning, and community connections. The board recognized him for his work and awarded him with a commendation at the end of the 2017-18 school year.

He also received a 3.2 percent salary increase for the upcoming 2018-19 school year as part of some amendments to his contract approved by the board recently.

In addition to a salary increase, Kopicki was given an additional vacation day per year and his 403(b) retirement plan contribution increased by 0.75 percent for the upcoming year. He’s also in the final stages of negotiating a deal to become the next superintendent of Altoona Area School District, which serves 8,000 students from three counties in Pennsylvania.
