After spending her early years in Thomas County, Lillie Minter later migrated to Albany, Georgia. She attended the Lincoln Brown School in Meigs, and graduated from Magnolia High School. Gladys Chapel A.M.E. church was her first church. She later became a Deaconess at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She also participated in numerous initiatives that helped children.
Lillie Minter was a homemaker who enjoyed decorating and cooking. She also enjoyed visiting the historic sites in the area. Her mother was a member of Free Run Baptist Church. She also had a brother, Willie Joe, and several sisters. Her grandchildren included Timothy Victor Minter, Gloria Minter, and Nancy Minter. Nancy Crosby, Thomas Minter, and Mrs. Mittie were other relatives.
A former employee of Americus Public Schools, Minnie Minter was a beloved member of the community. She was deeply attached to children and devoted to her family. She was an advocate for education and fought to make Americus a better place for everyone. Her family will miss her dearly. The funeral service will be held at the Lebanon Baptist Church, Plains, GA, on Wednesday, July 29, 2005. Reverend Elijah Smith is expected to officiate. She was the daughter of George Berry Kitchens and mamie Berry Kitchens, and was born May 26, 1919 in Sumter County. She was a dedicated member of the community and is survived by several children and grandchildren.
The Brown-Service funeral home is located at 1015 Cedar Ave in Albany, Georgia. They offer a variety of funeral services and are members the National Directors and Morticians Association. They also offer funeral pre-planning and cremation services. They have a large selection of funeral supplies. The family has made their wishes clear and Clara was grateful for it. Trendnell Sheffield and Flossie Irene Hann will be attending the May 22nd, 2021 graveside service. Da’mani will be laid to rest at the church.
The Minter family was not the only one that survived, but the Miner brothers & sisters of Mary Riggin were also there. Christine Martin and Willie Williams were their daughters. Lawrence Haslem Jr was also their step-son. They had a close relationship to Willie Mae Morgan, in addition to their daughter. This friendship was one of the most touching moments in their lives and will continue to live on through their family and the community.
